Yanks Abroad: The Week In Review

Rangers @ Celtic 5/4/10

Maurice Edu started, played the full 90, and gave a foul in the 2-1 defeat in Celtic Park. DaMarcus Beasley did not see any action for the ‘Gers, however he has indicated that he would be willing to take a pay cut to stay with the club.

Borussia M’gladbach v. Bayer Leverkusen 5/8/10

Michael Bradley played all 90 minutes, committed a foul and got a shot off in the 1-1 draw. M’gladbach finished in 12th place in the Bundesliga. The draw insured that Leverkusen will miss out on the Champion’s League next season.

Aston Villa v. Blackburn Rovers 5/9/10

Brad Friedel started his 228th consecutive match, but he and his mates fell 1-0 to visiting Blackburn. Friedel was the victim of an own goal via a deflection off Richard Dunne in the 84th minute. Despite the result, the Villans secured sixth place in the EPL meaning that they have managed to avoid an extra round in the Europa League next season. Aston Villa fans will be happy to know that it looks as if Martin O’Neill will spend another year running the club.

Bolton Wanderers v. Birmingham 5/9/10

Stuart Holden made his return to action in the 66th minute for Bolton, who picked up a 2-1 victory. Holden managed to get off a shot and pick up a foul in his first action since breaking his leg while playing for the USMNT on March 3rd.

Everton v. Portsmouth 5/9/10

Tim Howard recorded four saves while maintaining another clean sheet, in the 1-0 win for Everton. The Russian, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, came on in the 66th minute and pulled out the victory in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The win was good for eighth place for Everton, one spot out of next year’s Europa League.

Fulham @ Arsenal 5/9/10

Clint Dempsey played the first 66 minutes (seems like the 66 minute mark was the time to make substitutions on Sunday) and received a yellow, as Fulham went down 4-0 at Emirates. Most of the key players for Fulham rested in preparation for the Europa League final against Athlético Madrid on Wednesday (2:45 EST). Clint’s wife Bethany Dempsey was recently profiled by some random ass website, I like her look. Fulham have finished the EPL in 12th place.

West Ham United v. Manchester City 5/9/10

Jonathan Spector was an unused substitute in this 1-1 titanic struggle. West Ham finished five points clear of relegation. Spector can now shift his focus to June and the dismantling of the limey Brits.

Rangers v. Motherwell 5/9/10

In a match that was little more than a coronation for Rangers, Motherwell was able to dampen the SPL championship party by keeping the home side honest in a 3-3 draw. Mo Edu played the first 72 minutes in his 4th consecutive start. DaMarcus Beasley, however, was not even on the bench and is most likely on his way out of Ibrox. The Scottish champs have decided to cancel their American tour, in a related note, kilt sales in Boston and D.C. plummet.

Aris Salonika @ AEK Athens 5/9/10

Eddie Johnson found the back of the net again, but Aris lost 4-2. Once again, it is impossible to find any news on Aris other than the final score so there ya go. However, it is nice to see how Eddie Johnson is performing in Greece, but if I were him or Freddy Adu, my focus would be on not dying.

Injured Player News

Oguchi Onyewu was among the 23 players on AC Milan’s roster, however he has not returned to action.

Charlie Davies doesn’t believe that he is out of the running for a spot on the USMNT roster for the World Cup.
