Yanks Abroad: The Week In Review

Aris Salonika v. Olympiakos 4/28/10

Eddie Johnson netted a pair of goals in the 2-0 win for Aris. Freddy Adu provided the assist on Johnson’s first goal. That video is worth checking out, it was a very nice assist by Adu, and at the 2:15 mark we get a solid look at a Greek babe. On another note, that crowd looks insane and there is no way that a couple 3rd degree burns didn’t go down. The Americans have Aris dreaming of a Champion’s League birth

Fulham v. Hamburg SV 4/29/10

Clint Dempsey entered in the 57th minute in the 2nd leg of their scoreless Europa League match. After he entered the game, the men of Fulham were able to find the back of the net twice to take it 2-1. The Cottagers will square off with Athlético Madrid on May 12th for the Europa Championship.

Aston Villa @ Manchester City 5/1/10

In Brad Friedel’s 227th consecutive EPL game, he made 3 saves and let 3 in the net as Man City took the 3-1 victory in front of 47,102. It is pretty impressive that Friedel hasn’t missed a match in six seasons, however that is one less season than the Dukes of Hazzard, which ran for 7. How are the Dukes and Friedel related? They’re not.

Everton @ Stoke City 5/1/10

Tim Howard and Everton needed a win at Stoke City to keep their dreams of a Europa League slot alive, unfortunately they left with a 0-0 draw. Howard held up his end of the bargain making 3 saves and recording the shutout.

Rangers @ Dundee United 5/1/10

Mo Edu got the start and DaMarcus Beasley came on in the 28th minute after an injury to Kevin Thompson, in the 2-1 victory. This is the first action for Beasley since his Scottish Cup start at Dundee on March 24th. Clearly, the men of Ibrox have not let their minds wander to the summer break and have maintained their hunger.

Borussia M’gladbach @ Hannover 96 5/1/10

Michael Bradley and Co. went on the road and got destroyed 6-1. M’gladbach had a rough 22 minute stretch in the 1st half where they allowed 4 goals. Bradley did manage to record the assist on the lone goal for the away side.

Fulham v. West Ham United 5/2/10

Clinton Drew Dempsey got the start and found the net in the 3-2 Fulham win. Jonathan Spector played the full 90 for West Ham, but his defensive prowess was not enough to slow the Cottagers. The goal marked Dempsey’s 6th of the EPL this season. Clint also hit the post in the 25th minute from just outside the box on what could have been a “delicious goal”.

Aris Salonika @ PAOK Salonika 5/2/10

PAOK Salonika took the match 2-0 in front of their home crowd in the battle of Thessaloniki, the 2nd largest Greek city. As of 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, that is all I can tell you about this game…Aris clearly isn’t a darling of the media.

Injured Players

Stuart Holden had targeted Saturday for his return to action, however he did not get on the pitch.

Oguchi Onyewu has resumed full training with AC Milan.

Charlie Davies deserves a chance to play his way onto the World Cup roster.
