The Editors
With Landon Donovan set to bid the US Men’s National Team farewell Friday night against Ecuador in Connecticut (7 PM, ESPN 2), we thought we’d spend a few days at TYAC saluting the American #10.
No doubt we’ll be labeled “fan boys” for doing so, but we don’t really care. After all, we started this website as disappointed US Soccer fans with journalism degrees. We work in media and have a lawyer among us. We don’t need permission to say thanks. And we’re smart enough as writers to know that without Landon Donovan, there’s probably far less quality soccer writing in the United States right now. Which means less people getting paid to write about it.
We’re even-handed and we’re journalists, but we’ll always be fans.
So what will “Thanks LD” week involve?
We’ve asked various soccer writers to send us their favorite Donovan moment, or moments, whether for club or country, and we’ll post them on the site all week.
We’re also working on assembling a (by no means exhaustive) list of the best writing on Landon Donovan over the years.
We’ll post goals, photographs, and finally, we’ll cap the match week with our usual USMNT preview from Jon Levy.
If you want to share anything, don’t hesitate to contact us. Or simply add your thanks in the comments section.
