Jurgen Klinsmann has released the 23 man roster for the US Men’s National Team friendlies against Scotland and Austria, November 15th and November 19th respectively. As expected by our own Neil W. Blackmon, Klinsmann’s promise to call in players who were still competing in the MLS playoffs turned out to be a bluff, but a handful of players from eliminated MLS sides are in the team, with the notable exception of Landon Donovan, who has a “lingering ankle injury”, per US Soccer.
Unexpected? Timothy Chandler remains out of the team and Eric Lichaj returns from Narnia to earn his first call-up under Jurgen Klinsmann.
Here are the 23 players Klinsmann selected.
Goalkeepers: Tim Howard (Everton), Bill Hamid (DC United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire)
Defenders: Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Omar Gonzalez (Los Angeles Galaxy), Michael Orozco (Puebla), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla)
Midfielders: MB 90 (Roma), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg FC), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Brek Shea (Stoke City)
Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)
Full roster reaction piece expected tomorrow on this site, but feel free to start a discussion in the comments section!
