Aston Villa v. Everton 4/14/10
The duel between the current US keeper and his predecessor, ended a 2-2 draw after a 90th minute own goal by the Villans. Tim Howard made three saves and Brad Friedel had a pair. Howard had plenty of praise for his teammate, Tim Cahill, who scored both goals for Everton.
Rangers @ Dundee United 4/14/10
Mo Edu started and played 90 minutes before limping off the pitch in extra time. Edu committed a pair of fouls and had two shots for the away side in the 0-0 draw, Beasley didn’t see any action.
Borussia M’gladbach @ Schalke 04 4/17/10
Michael Bradley put in a full day of work in midfield in the 3-1 loss. Schalke currently sits two points behind Bayern Munich for the lead in the Bundesliga. Pope John Paul II became an honorary member of the Schalke 04 club in 1987.
Everton @ Blackburn 4/17/10
Tim Howard made four saves to lead his side to the 3-2 win on the road. Howard has started and played all 90 minutes in every game in 2010 for Everton, with a record of 14-6-6. However, Everton brought in Jan Mucha, the Slovakian starting keeper for a little friendly competition.
Hull City @ Birmingham 4/17/10
Jozy Altidore entered the match in the 76th minute and committed a pair of fouls in the 0-0 draw. You have to love Jozy’s confidence heading into the World Cup.
Aston Villa @ Portsmouth 4/18/10
The away squad picked up the 2-1 win at Fratton Park in Portsmouth. Friedel made five saves in his 17th consecutive start for Aston.
Rangers v. Heart of Midlothian 4/18/10
No Edu or Beasley in the 2-0 win for the ‘Gers. Rangers are now just one win away from clinching their second straight SPL title. DaMarcus Beasley thinks Glasgow is ghetto and loves hookahs. This is similar to Cristiano Ronaldo, who thinks Kim Kardashian’s booty is ghetto and loves hookers.
Aris Salonika @ Olympiakos 4/18/10
Eddie Johnson played the first 60 minutes for Aris, who dropped this one 2-1. Freddy Adu did not make his way onto the pitch. Olympiakos’ keeper was shown a red card for tripping Johnson in the box, but the real action was in the crowd.
Injured Players
Although he is neither injured nor a player, the NYT just printed a nice article on Claudio Reyna, who was recently named youth technical director for the US Soccer.
Charlie Davies may be pressed by the recent play of Edson Buddle. Having a little competition and multiple options is always a good thing.
